I will reply more fully in my official reply, but would just like to say for now that electric bike is cheating. Not that we haven't considered getting one ourselves! Good luck on the 5 k run. I ran to the station last night, a distance of half a mile, so if I do that 10 times would that count as a 5 k run, or something.

LOL, Terry - I'll tell Jim you've said that about his bike! 🤣

Ten times half a mile would be around 8km - which is nearly TWICE what I ran this morning. I jolly well hope that I can get to 5k without stopping... 🤣 Still, I'm only 500m off - as this morning's post in the Jog log 🏃🏻 will confirm: https://rebeccaholden.substack.com/p/wednesday-august-23

By setting off at the crack of dawn...! The race itself is at 11am - so if it's a day like today I'm SUNK! 🤣

Ahhhh. A cup of coffee and a letter to Terry from Rebecca.! What a fine way to start a Wednesday morning! And so informative! I had no idea that Caesar had a cat named Maxipus! Sounds exactly fitting, doesn't it? I once had a puppy we named Magnus. He never lived up to the name so we just called him Maggie. We loved him even though he was not very bright. Thanks for the fun read, my girl. Always a pleasure. Congratulations on your 20th!

Awww Sharron, Maggie sounds adorable!

Thank you so much for your lovely words. Actually the fact that Maxipus was Caesar's cat is *coughs* a matter of speculation (see footnote!) BUT 'Maxipus' was a recent bona fide architectural find... so although it's a long shot, well, who knows....?!

I can't believe I've got to 20 letters! It's such a fun project!

Great post, Rebecca, I particularly enjoyed the cat anecdotes, yppah yrasrevinna kept me guessing for a while, and love the shot of the sky!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Mya - thank you for reading! 😊

yppah yrasrevinna. 😆 And yes there are breaks in those clouds, but here in Australia I’d call those a sign of extremely cold air overhead!!! Obviously not the case for you!!

Always a pleasure. I’ll go check out your latest Jog Log post now. You’ll be happy to know you’ve inspired me (from way across the globe) to stride out and speed up my own walks. I’m really enjoying the speedier pace.

Hugs dear Rebecca. 🤗🤗😘

YES! I've just read it - I'm so behind on my Substack reading inbox this week - I've just found your post and it's been a real highlight! 😊

Great minds think alike, eh?!

Good luck on the 5km run Rebecca, can't wait to read about it.

For years my friends and I had a gift bag that we would use to give our birthday gifts. The same bag went round and round our circle for about 5 years. It was lovely. A few friends and I also have a tradition of giving the same birthday card back and forth, we write a new message in it each time.

Thanks, Donna! I'll let you know how I get on. Not long to go now.....! 👀

What a fabulous story about the gift bag - that's absolutely wonderful! There's so little continuity in many aspects of our lives, isn't there, so how lovely to have that common thread running through your gift giving for those five years! And yay that you exchange the same birthday card again and again - that's absolutely gorgeous! 😍

I'm trying to imagine a cat on a diplomatic mission.

This is an animal who wouldn't hesitate to glare at you when their food bowl is empty. *BG*

You're right, Olga: I'm not sure that cats are renowned for their diplomacy! 🤣

You both need to publish a collection of these gems.

With Rebecca's drawing as well, it would be a kind of Pillow Book with humour. And centuries hence, folk will read it and learn what society was like in the 2020's...

Prue, that's so kind of you to say! You've made me blush and giggle at the same time. You've got me wondering how representative Terry's and my musings ARE of society of the 2020s...? Terry, if you're reading this, we need an agent!!! 👀

There will be much written by commentators of all kinds, but anecdotal writings are always the best. They are wry, amusing, earthy - yes, you need an agent. Or at the very least indie-publish! You already have the following...

Those clouds look like a bunch of cotton balls. Nature can create a lot of amazing things.

I don't know if you know this or not but the beginning runner in the female category averages around a time of 39:39 in your age group for a 5K.

Those clouds were extraordinary! 😊

Thanks for posting that stat! I've never been fast - my personal best for a 5k is 29:00, but that was at Parkrun several years ago on a very flat course. The pub race is uphill almost all the way, and I'm nowhere near the fitness I used to be - I'm not going to make it to the finish line as fast as 39:39! My fastest on this course was 32:31 - and the slowest (IT WAS SOOOO HOT) was 45:23.
