The project: A month-long stint of pounding the fields and lanes of Sussex in my hapless and ill-advised attempt to complete a quintessentially English 5k race between two local pubs. Yes, a pint of beer awaits every finisher!
Dear Reader,
Gratitude
I received an e-mail from the Race Director this afternoon. He’d emailed his entire list of any runners who had ever entered the event to say the following:
Being the 25th anniversary year, the race has received increased attention and has reached the entry limit for the first time in 25 years! We are very pleased that the race is so popular, but we are also disappointed that some runners who wish to run the 5K are now not able to.
With entries now being closed for the race, on the day entries WILL NOT be available this year. We are sorry that you are not able to run this year if you had intended to with entering on the day.
Gosh! It’s always been a popular race, but has never sold out. Well, I’m so grateful that I’d got my entry in so early, rather than relying on walk-up places still being available.
The reward for finishing the race has always been a pint of the local brew served at the finishing line at the local pub. This year participants get to keep the glass the beer (or equivalent soft drink) is served in, and it will have been engraved to mark the 25th anniversary of the race.
Yup. That I get to keep my glass is why I entered! 😉
Altitude
In other news I have had NO exercise today save for dialling up the adrenaline in my body BY FLYING AN AIRCRAFT.
There’ll be more in an upcoming Saturday post, but to say that today was INCREDIBLE would be the biggest understatement I have ever put into writing.
There’s ONE day of training to go until the race! I’ll see you tomorrow.
Love,
Rebecca

I’m not sending these posts out by e-mail, but you can always check in with how things are going by clicking Jog log 🏃🏻 in the top navigation bar on the web browser version of my Substack homepage.
Perhaps you could fly during the race? Ha ha!
But seriously, I'm very proud of you for taking this on.
And I hope that things went well during the run. :).
What?!? Flying! Wowie wow wow! Beautiful pic, must have been such a wonderful adventure!! Also, what is the date of your race? Will it be live streamed so I can watch you cross the finish line? Dig deep!
