Very interesting. I'd thought of writing a similar retrospective myself, not sure if I will. Thanks for linking to my writing with constraints course 😃. Happy new year, innit.
Thanks, Terry! In fact I'd planned a much more comprehensive review of the year along the lines of the 'Letterospective' I wrote in respect of our 2023 canon of correspondence last year (that's one of my favourite-ever posts, as it happens!), but for various reasons pared it back to this in the end. I rather enjoyed limiting the word count per month to the number of days in that month, and had fun choosing which pictures to include. Happy new year to you, too!
Funnily enough, before I recieved your post I was thinking of doing something similar, namely one photo from each month plus a highlight. I think it's nice to do a shorter retrospective occasionally.
Rebecca, happy 2025!! 🥳 I had to scale back my time on Substack the latter portion of this year to attend to life stuff, but I’m making my way out of the weeds and so looking forward to catching up on my favorite newsletters—which of course includes yours! Love the idea of limiting the word count in your reflection to the number of days in each month. I hope the new year starts off gently for you.
Happy new year, Erika! I can relate to the life getting in the way stuff - I’m very behind on all sorts of things, particularly my own Substack reading, and that frustrates me. Still, I’ll get there! xxx
A fabulous joyous post, Rebecca. You have been so creative and I've looked forward so much to each endeavour. I love how you have pushed boundaries. Here's to 2025's results. Strength to strength. XXXX
I am choosing one day this week to go back and re-read ALL OF THESE! Your quick monthly synopsis was like a visit with old friends. I remember them all and look forward to a complete Rebecca Redux! The art samples here are just a delight. If I saw ten paintings on a table, I would know immediately which ones were yours. Such a light, clear style. I look forward to seeing what is on your mind this coming year, my friend.
Oh, this is such a lovely comment - thank you, Sharron!
As for what's on my mind this coming year - there'll be Lego, scary fish movies, peanuts, loco letter writing in my continued correspondence with Terry, and plenty of art!
As for the wider picture, my posting pattern is going to be a little different, in that there might not be a post every Saturday, and I must must must find more time and energy for engaging a whole lot more consistently with all of the wonderful writing and writers I love so much on Substack!
I’ve been taking a leaf out of your (sketch)book over the last few weeks and engaging with a dipping-in-and-out drawing practice. I’ve got the scrappiest sketchbook - which isn’t at all daunting, so there’s literally no pressure at all - and I’m throwing myself into colour and shapes and all things crazy. I’m not doing a lot of reading and writing at the moment, but gosh, it’s lovely to dip into art. Your A.M. Sketching practice is such an inspiration.

Happy New Year!
And to YOU!!! Thank you so much!
Okay, "crafter math" is my new favorite word! This entire piece was beyond inspiring and I thank you for that.
Thank you so much, Mary - I”m so happy you enjoyed it! x
A year of intentional noticing! And immersion in nature! And asparagus season! Plus a (an?) hilarious shower pic! Time well spent.
Ahh yes, hilarious versus ‘ilarious! And ‘erbs and ‘istorical ‘otels!
I can’t WAIT for asparagus season - but at least in the meantime Brussels sprouts are still going strong. Hurrah!
Keep up that great artwork! Happy New Year!
Oh Sue, that’s so lovely! Thank you. Happy new year! x
Love this so much, Rebecca!!! Love your art, your words, your memories and all those things that make your Substack (and you) amazing. 🎉
Awwwwww! Always so kind - thank you, Mary! ❤️
