Tiny Rebecca is the cutest, running and splashing through the water. She looks determined! I can taste and feel the gritty sticky bun - grit has a unique crunch. ⛱ P.S. Summer blankets in Texas = a fan.

A fan! 😂😂😂

Thanks, Mary! I’ve got some time at the beach coming up in a few days - the weather forecast is disappointing so far, but I MIGHT just dip my toes in. Not sure I’ll look as cute as tiny Rebecca in that snap, though…. 😁

How cool is that temperature blanket? What an amazing idea!

As for the Moon maths, you lost me at 37.8. I am a maths dyslexic. My eyes cross and my mouth dries up. A terrible condition.

My takeaway though, from your post is that sweet little girl running along the beach - a beautiful image.

Thanks as ever for your writing.

Awww, thanks, Prue - I came across that picture not long ago, and couldn’t not use it here!

I love the idea of a temperature blanket - maybe one day I’ll get back to knitting. I’m not sure I could manage a whole blanket, though - it’d need to be a scarf, I reckon!

I would eat the sticky bun covered in sand, too. (As a current 42.5 year old, and as a 4.25 year old.)

Thanks for sharing my newsletter and 2023 temperature blanket 😘 the political version is a fascinating one, perhaps something to occupy the anxious mind during our next elections 🫣 If I did a temperature blanket this year, I’d have to omit far too much blue. Or just set the yarn on fire 🥵

LOL - I love that the sand wouldn’t put you off, Bryn!

It would be interesting to see the year-on-year differences, but an annual temperature blanket would be quite an undertaking. You’ve had all sorts over there, haven’t you - wildfires and everything.

Our summer’s beginning to get less chilly - today it’s been grey and warmish, which is an improvement on yesterday’s rain. Not short-sleeve weather yet by any means. I’ve got a trip to the beach coming up - I shall be wearing LAYERS! 🤣

I’m picturing the full-on long-sleeved bathing costumes 😂

Thankfully in my area no wildfires, but wild humidity (so it feels like 35-39C) and winds.

And I have little shame, clearly (or have lost too many treats to beach mishaps 🫣)

🤣 and oh wow, that’s HOT!!!

To be honest, I think I’m with you - I’d probably risk chomping on a sandy sticky bun again!

Wow, Rebecca! Such interesting topics today. That London QuickMap just suits me. I could just sit and read it like a book. I love maps - and that one looks so smartly designed. I was delighted by the temperature blanket. Just the color graph alone would have interested me, but to knit it in a blanket was SO clever. Makes me want to start a project! I am not a knitter, but I DID make a long thin neck scarf once - knit a row, purl a row, add a fringe. I am impressed with your maths skills. "And that means the moon will appear full just over 10% of the time. ✔️" I would have added "QED". Lastly: ADORABLE photo of toddler Rebecca at the beach. What's a little grit? A sticky bun is a sticky bun.

Oh Sharron, thank you so much! Yes, that map design is so clever - the issue with many city maps is that they show EITHER the streets OR the Tube lines - okay, the street maps show the stations, but there’s no way of knowing which stations are served by which lines without referring to the separate underground map.

You’ve reminded me about a stripy blue scarf I knitted over twenty years ago - it was quite the project at the time. It is SO long - I remember I didn’t want to stop, and loved changing the yarn to make the next stripe! I must see if I can find it.

I will send you some of our heat wave your way. I do love wrapping myself in a blanket on a chilly day outdoors. I hope the American cousins were enamored with the U.K.

Such a fun post of finds, but little Rebecca is just adorable. I hope you are still running over the beach as free as in the photo! Fortunately, I won’t need heated blankets for our summer road trip, but I’m seriously tempted to get one anyway. Thanks for sharing, Rebecca 🌻
