"Pile ou Face prices the unopened parcels by weight, with buyers having no clue what their chosen boxes might contain until they have parted with their cash." What a fantastic idea (and another great post)!!! I receive so much mail at work that belongs to no one in my office nor in the building proper in which my office resides, and though I always cross out the address with an arrow toward the sender's address and dutifully write RTS (return to sender), I can see the benefit of opening a Pile ou Face in downtown Austin. Hmmmm.

NOTE: Here in the US, it may be a federal offense to ope someone else's mail: https://thelawdictionary.org/article/what-is-the-federal-law-for-opening-mail-not-addressed-to-you/#:~:text=A%20federal%20statute%20known%20as,yours%20when%20you%20opened%20it.

Gosh, that's sounds like a frustrating amount of post arriving that isn't addressed to anyone at the premises! What a pain! Years ago I used to receive no end of post for the previous owners of my flat after I moved in - they'd done a post-redirection thing with the Post Office for three months after their move, but suddenly three months after that I started getting all their post - in those three months they hadn't made the effort to tell anyone like their utility providers their new address, so it was envelopes with 'Southern Water' or 'British Telecom' arriving.....! I worried for them, honestly. They hadn't left me their forwarding address, so I took to taking a pile of envelopes every week to the estate agent's office for them to deal with.

I think with 'Pile ou Face' and the issue with the legalities around opening someone else's post there's probably a waiver in place, because that post was undeliverable. It's an interesting point though, definitely!

Only Rebecca Holden could write an entire article related to the post - office and draw us in like a magnet. What a creative spirit you have! Loved this.

All the more reason to applaud the woman's mega - creativity, wouldn't you say? My life is restricted, too, and most of the time I come up with bugger all. (Go Rebecca.)

Believe me - there is NOTHING out there you want. It would just make you cry and gnash your teeth.

I’ve been very tempted to post you tea (not taters) in follow up to some comments we’ve exchanged recently, and especially after these letters!

Rebecca has very poor taste in tea. Save yourself some money and send her a bag of floor sweepings instead -- she won't know the difference. <snigger>

Letters delivered by 11:30am! Was that due to less population or better efficiency? Hmmm.

Our PO is mostly funded by the government. Stamps and shipping don't cover the costs. And of course since Covid we have fewer mail carriers. There's always a "We're Hiring" sign. No post-atoes.

Pretty impressive same-day delivery, right?! In my little rural village our post arrives between around 1.30pm and 3pm - first class letters SOMETIMES arrive next day, second class letters are supposed to arrive on the fourth day (so, the day you posted it + three more days). In many towns and cities people get to read their letters over breakfast - I have to wait until I get home from work, because they're delivered so much later.
