I enjoyed the re-read, and I love the new ‘do! I hope you grow more comfortable with it as the days pass, but hey—hats are wonderful things!

Oh Holly, how lovely to see you - I'm so glad you enjoyed the post, and thank you so much for the compliment! Newsflash: a few days after I'd written the post I'm enjoying my short hair so much more - firstly, we've been camping, and it's SOOOO much easier to deal with, and secondly, I've started raiding Jim's supply of hair wax, which is exactly what I need to stick my hair down to where I want it to go. Problem solved!!!

I’m so glad you are growing accustomed to your new hairstyle, and I agree—sooo much easier to maintain when camping! Can’t wait to see more photos of it!

Love the haircut! Being 5ft nothing and shrinking I am at the other end of the spectrum. Ordering a drink at a crowded bar can be very problematic but I don’t get a drink 😂😂😘

I love your new haircut. :).

I love your new look! Feisty and fun! I don't like fussing with products, styling , even blow drying. Getting out of the shower and ruffling up my hair is the best!

Expand full comment

Thank you very much, Susan! I don't like the fuss of styling and all that either - it's why I only ever used to wear my hair tied back, and only even brushed if I could be bothered - LOL!!!! I loved a previous haircut which was shaved (shaved!!!!!!) very short at the back and high up the sides, with a sweep of very long hair just at the top - that was so easy to deal with - I had to do precisely nothing to it! This short-all-over (but not shaved!) hair takes a bit of effort to get it to go where I want it to, but I just grab a blob of hair wax and rub it in and that makes it do what it's told! 🤣

I love the haircut! And also the neck and shoulders - you rock it!

Margreet, that's really kind of you, thank you! After my dubious initial moments of having short hair I'm now really enjoying it - hurrah!!!

Love it. We call them swimmer's shoulders and it's true - halternecks and bare backs are brilliant for those so blessed!

As for 6 feet tall, so what! You can always see over the crowd and from one who is shrinking as each minute passes, I say - 'Own it!' To which I would also add, 'Bigtime!!!!'

Expand full comment

Oooooh, swimmer's shoulders! I rather like that expression! And yes, seeing over the crowd is really handy - particularly in supermarket aisles or the Christmas shopping crush! Thank you so much! 😊

Ha, that was fun!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Tom - thanks so much for reading!

I love your new haircut Rebecca, it looks amazing! However, it's not about what I think but how it makes you feel so I hope you come around to enjoying it.

Donna, you're so kind - thank you! Actually now that I'm getting used to it I'm enjoying this shorter hair - it's pretty fun already! 😁

I dunno, Rebecca. Your short hair looks great, and I don't note anything amiss about your shoulders. I'd certainly stand you a drink wherever we met, and never call you "Sir".

Awww, thanks, Dale! I'm getting used to my hair now, and am already growing to love it! Losing all that length has given me some confidence - so it's very much onwards and upwards (although not in the sense of 'taller' - LOL!!!). 🤣

Cheers to the new ‘do! You do you!

Thanks, Amie! I'm beginning to have some fun with it now (thanks to Jim's now dwindling supply of hair wax!!!!)!

I love the new haircut in your selfie, but I know if you can’t find peace in it, it’s got to go!

Expand full comment

Thanks, Alison! In fact - and I'm glad to say - it's growing on me - it's so very much more convenient, and less stressy than all that hair I used to have (and which I'd only EVER tie back in a rubber band, so it was totally pointless!)! 🤣

No one is unkinder than our own inner voice - although some of the eejits you cite here are a close second!! After years of feeling bad about my own appearance, an artsy friend shared that famous Edith Sitwell quote: *If one is a greyhound, why try to look like a Pekingese?* and it made me think differently. You on the other hand look fabulous and I loved reading about your triumphant evolution. Such a joyous ending too! xo

Expand full comment

Sue, that's a terrific point about our inner voice - I think we're our own worst enemy sometimes! People, I mean. And thank you so much - I'm enjoying the new haircut better now than when I'd written the introduction to this repost - it seems that all it had needed was a bit of 'product' in it! 😁

You get to be you, Rebecca, and we love it! Great haircut!

Thanks, Ron!!!! Now that I'm getting used to the short hair I've found some confidence from somewhere - those scissors have done me the power of good!!! 🙌

Expand full comment

Love the hair! I hope you come to love to once you get over the shock.

Expand full comment

It IS shock, isn't it? Like when a man shaves off his mustache after wearing one for years. He cannot believe his face... It wears off.

Expand full comment

Yes! Exactly like that. My husband had a moustache for the first few years of my knowing him, when he shaved it off I couldn't stop looking at the way his lips moved when he spoke, they looked so different. As you rightly say, it wears off.

That's so lovely, Janet! 🤣

'He cannot believe his face....' I love that, Sharron! Dad shaved off his beard accidentally when I was about fourteen. Mum - who hadn't wanted him to grow it in the first place, in fact - said that his face wasn't the same one that had first grown it!!!!!! 🤣

So funny! Glad you are getting used to your new haircut. It is adorable. I would not be surprised if you went even shorter ( pixie length) next time. It is so easy to care for.

Expand full comment

DEFINITELY going even shorter next time - I'm already trying to resist the giddy temptation of shaved back and sides (I used to get Jim to trim it for me every couple of weeks with his beard trimmer - don't laugh!!!!!!). 🤣

Expand full comment

Not laughing! Sounds daring!

Expand full comment

Thank you very much, Janet! I'm enjoying the short hair more now that I'm getting used to it - in fact, I've got a new level of confidence now that I've ditched all those inches of the stuff that had been weighing me down. 😊

Expand full comment

That's wonderful! So pleased that you've grown to enjoy it, and how lovely that it's given you a confidence boost. I remember having mine cut short many years ago and it felt liberating!

Expand full comment

Rebecca, I had a good laugh! Thank you for this. I totally relate to people mistaking me as a sir instead of a ma'am. Sometimes, I'd raise the pitch of my voice, "no worries!" I'd say in the sweetest, most understanding way and they'll get more flustered. Definitely love the new look. Keep being YOU!

Expand full comment

That raised voice pitch is such a great trick - it's how I got that free drink - LOL!!!!!!!!!! 🤣 Thanks so much, Stella - I'm glad this post made you laugh - I had such fun with it. 😁
