The project: A month-long stint of pounding the fields and lanes of Sussex in my hapless and ill-advised attempt to complete a quintessentially English 5k race between two local pubs. Yes, a pint of beer awaits every finisher!
Dear Reader,
With a busy day ahead, this morning I had found a small frustration getting the better of me. Once I’d crossed the threshold into, well, cross, I was very grateful that my running shoes were already waiting for me by the front door.
Keen to repeat some of the sprint bursts I’d managed on Tuesday, I felt that less steep terrain would be a good idea. I wondered whether to run my usual route clockwise instead of anticlockwise. 🤔
I weighed up the pros and cons.
Advantage
Most of the route this way is downhill.Disadvantage
On race day it will be the opposite.
And:
Disadvantage
The hilly climb through the field to get back to my house will be a shock to the system.Advantage
Although that stretch is not part of the race route, I will be walking it downhill to get to the starting line on the day.
The weather’s improved. It had rained all night, but yesterday’s gale-force winds had blown out to just a gentle breeze by this morning, and the sun was out.
I ran, I walked, and now and again I even sprinted.
And that uphill climb across the field back to my house? Reader, I walked it. 😊
I felt so much better when I got home. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you tomorrow!
Love,
Rebecca
